Review on Titanium Water Bottle with Titanium Lid: Lightweight and Durable Hydration Solution by Matt Kim

Great water bottle! As strong as my stainless steel KleenKanteen and weighs almost half as much as Nalgene (which weighs 6.7 ounces on my scale, while this bottle of Vargo weighs 3.8 ounces). You lose about 25% capacity compared to a Nalgen bottle (32 fl oz vs. 24 for this bottle), but I bought a lightweight Sawyer water filter to have on hand, refill more often, and carry less water overall (I carry two full bottles of Nalgene with you). ).This bottle is about the same height as the Nalgene but with a slimmer profile, making it much more comfortable to carry and store. The entire bottle, including the cap, is made from titanium with a brushed/brushed finish. The exception with my bottle is that the threads on the cap are polished smooth, likely due to complaints of metal-on-metal noise when screwing on or off. I read other reviews about this noise. Doesn't bother me at all. Reminds me of a WWII canteen my grandfather gave me as a kid. The lid also has a strong silicone ring that closes it. This is exactly what I expected and I'm very happy with it. It's nothing fancy, but it's titanium. So if you take good care of it, it will last a lifetime. More importantly, you don't have to worry about chemicals or metallic tastes getting into your water. And you can light it and boil water if necessary (without the lid, of course). Did I mention it's VERY easy ;) Update: after writing my review I went back and read some bad reviews and just wanted to address some of the complaints. I bought my bottle in April 2016, maybe some of the bad reviews have older versions, not sure. Does it dent easily? no Will there be a dent? Yes. I have a pretty strong hand, and if I press it with all my might, right in the middle, using my thumb as a pressure point, I can start pressing the sidewall. That means I can probably dent them permanently, which I won't do. The point with titanium pots, pans, water bottles, etc. is that they have a good strength to weight ratio. That doesn't mean you get a bottle with the same wall thickness as a stainless steel bottle. This means they can make the walls a bit thinner, as titanium retains good strength with thinner walls, reducing overall weight. However, titanium is not indestructible. Dropping this bottle on a sharp rock will dent it. So don't do it. lid leaking? I turned my full water upside down for the last hour. No leakage. I'll leave it overnight just to be sure. If you leave an object filled with water in the sun, the rise in water temperature creates pressure (have you ever heard of a steam engine). The seal can (and should) fail when the temperature of the fluid inside begins to rise. At the same time, one of the great features of this bottle is that you can pour hot liquids into it. and even boil water in it. It's not insulated, so don't expect those liquids to stay hot, but at least you don't have to worry about leaching chemicals like you do with Nalgene. Just said... -Bad lid? The lid creaks. This is your warning. it's a slightly dull sound of metal on metal. It's not loud and doesn't rattle. It just is. It doesn't bother me at all. The threads on my cap and bottle are excellent and I haven't had any cross threading issues. not even sure if he would allow it, creatures that fit so tightly. The thread of the cap is made of polished metal, the inside of the neck is also matted. I've had mine not long ago, but I suspect it will get smoother and smoother over time until one day the noise almost goes away. If not, I'll update this post. So far this bottle has been great! This bottle outperforms my Nalgenes for weight, strength, durability (long life), chemical inertness and I can cook in it. What else do you need?
