A toy that lacks the necessary parts to make it a part of a smart home is, for the most part, ineffective. After having fun with Alice for a couple of weeks and setting up smart home scenarios (which, by the way, can be created in native device programs, without needing the Station), I practically ceased accessing her after that point. It's true that youngsters can still have fun by using their voices to construct household equipment or by simply chatting with one another. But this won't last forever. And because it already has a Zigbee gateway built in, Station 2 is arguably the better option for use in a smart home. However, if you take into account the pricing differential, it is more beneficial to use a separate gateway.
