Bought to help with dampness in my basement. The fans were not enough to prevent mold on the walls (wood paneling). We needed something that could operate unattended and constantly but quietly so as not to disturb guests. This device was amazing. I needed a straight drain, but the most practical placement would be to fit the washing machine drain. The light weight made it easy to place on a shelf to get the right pitch. And it's easy to move around to attack specific rooms. Combined with a ventilation fan, I dehumidified the entire basement. Has been running for over 6 weeks with no problems. It is programmed to reduce humidity below 45%, which it maintains. If I turn it off for just one day, the humidity rises back above 70%. It's in the utility room next to the bedroom - you can't even hear it unless the door is open. (Air flow through ventilation grille and wall fan) The fan is louder than this unit. The only problem was that the hose that came with it had a tendency to clog air, causing water to pool in the unit's drain pan and shut off when the pan was full (as intended). I replaced the hose with a smooth surface hose for less than $3 and have had no problems since. I don't have an exact cost estimate for the rollout. My best estimate is that continuous running (programmed to maintain 45%) costs about $20 for three weeks. For me it is worth maintaining a 500 square meter system. Feet clean and mold free. Advantages: light weight - easy to move or place high and quiet - behind a hollow core door, does not disturb quick sleep - water starts draining within 2 minutes after switching on. Significant drop in indoor humidity within 2 hours. Cons: Small water tank, but this keeps the device small and light. I knew that and wanted to merge directly. the supplied hose clogs with air too easily. I recommend exchanging if you will use.
