Very good brushes. Every time I read about synthetic horsehair bristles I'm curious as to what kind of compound is used and if it's just a gimmick to sell the brushes. Rest assured this is a good quality brush. I recently used almost all but the two largest brushes to finish a 10 inch real deerskin drum. While it looks small, it's a big undertaking and opting for a metallic finish means any blemishes, surface defects and streaks will be more visible than with traditional matte or matte paint. I don't use oil or watercolor with these Folk Art black and copper metallic acrylics. These brushes have held up really well. Since the deerskin is translucent, I apply an initial coat of color and then place the drum on a light source to ensure I get full coverage. This requires multiple build layers to completely block out the light. The brushes came in a very nice packaging with rubber loops to keep them organized. I actually used the packaging to keep it organized when not in use and it folds flat for good storage in a stack of art pads or spare drawing pads. When they arrived some of the large brushes were very stiff, the bristles seemed to stick together, but a few quick flicks of the fingers broke it all up nicely. They took and held the color very well. When I used thin kohl pencils or brushes with chiseled tips and squeezed them a little to loosen them up a bit, they immediately snapped back into shape and I was able to use them to bring out fine details. This is in stark contrast to cheap or even average quality brushes. Sometimes I can only use thin eyeliner a few times before it's worn down enough to need replacing to get those finer details. Most of the time I try to be gentle with my tools and only clean them with water while the paint is still wet on the brush. I did this to them and the color came right off after a few passes between my fingers under hot water. Just out of curiosity, I left one of the brushes until the paint was dry. It was a little harder to remove the dried chunks of paint, but it still came out nice and clean. The biggest fear with new brushes is that the brush will lose its bristles as you paint. Getting rid of fresh paint without damaging or repainting the paint can be a real pain, especially if you don't realize it until it's dried. I watched these brushes like a hawk, and while I thought I might have a few tight calls, they all turned out to be a strand of my cats' fur as they walked by to check out the process. None of the bristles lost their shape during the cleaning or painting process, and all of the brushes used held their shape well enough to use in my next project. Again, I try not to overuse my brushes, but I'm definitely not giving up the standard painting techniques most people use. The fact that they haven't lost a single bristle is enough for me to prove they're worth the price. Now someone might not care about the price, but this is quite a set of brushes. If we spend over $5-9$ on a brush at an art supply store and still come across brushes that lose shape or lose shape so much that they need to be replaced frequently. this sentence is good. Plus, with this range, you don't have to dig through your art supplies to find the right size or shape. I was very impressed with the quality and durability of these brushes. I will be using them again on my next project and would recommend them to anyone who has multiple brushes but wants more variety.
