Purchased to help mount iron pipe lamps and other "industrial" fixtures. In general I like them, although they are a bit softer than I would like. It's hard to find something that won't damage the metal yet is strong enough to hold it securely when a lot of torque is applied. Like most soft jaws, they have several rare earth magnets built into them to hold them against the jaws of the metal vise. The problem with them is that the magnets are squarely in line with the main groove that runs the full length of the soft jaws, and if you pinch something round (or any shape I can think of) too hard, there's a lurch the risk of it tearing or breaking or more magnets. Rare earth magnets are inherently very brittle. The design would benefit if the magnets were offset from one of the clamping grooves. I only broke one of the magnets and the jaws are still fully functional, but depending on the environment, small particles of really strong magnetic material floating around can cause problems.
