I am a heavier woman in her 40's and I found this dress both comfortable and flattering. The dress is long like all maxi dresses are. There is enough fabric so as to not be tight or form-fitting. The waist is a little higher (above the belly button, but below the bust) so it kind of hides a flabby tummy. It also has a flattering wrap design across the chest which detracts from the aforementioned flabby belly. The material is soft and comfortable. The dress is also warm due to it's length, so it would probably be better worn in cooler climates or by people who naturally stay cooler. The dress feels like a quality garment and I didn't notice any seams coming apart or loose threads.
