I bought this cage but not sure if it will work with my Nikon D800. I made the mistake of buying the wrong cage as the cheese bars on this particular model were too short to fit my camera. I found this out after the order shipped so I ordered some longer (145mm) cheese bars which arrived a day after the cage. At first I was concerned that the cage would not allow access to the battery, but by taking it apart and reassembling the device from the base I was able to access the port itself and my camera's options while in the cage. Do not fully tighten any of the mounting screws until the cage is fully assembled. My advice is to start by attaching the base to the camera, then add the lower right and left arms, making sure they are positioned to allow access to the battery. Then attach the top plate that hooks the hot shoe, then the top right and left arms, making sure the cheese peg holes line up. Insert the cheese sticks to align the top and bottom frames, tighten the top and bottom arm screws, and then tighten the hot shoe mount. Make sure that when loosening the handles of the cheese sticks, the cheese sticks can come out of the frame unhindered. I also bought a grip with a built in shoe mount on top and a second hot shoe mount that fits into each of the many 1/4-20 holes on the cage. I am very happy with this attachment. It bolted directly to a 15mm quick release bar block I already had. The matte box and follow focus system work great and I can set it up on a tripod or shoulder pad in seconds. My 7 inch monitor turned on immediately, as did my gun mic and my Atomos Nija Star. I just ordered an extra bracket for my blender. This cage is a great value. The details are well thought out and very well finished.
