I had a Mustek 1200CU scanner that I was happy with, but I got a new computer with Windows Vista and Mustek just doesn't release drivers for this scanner. I don't scan as often as I used to but I do need to scan from time to time and have decided all I need is the Canon LiDE 25. I'm glad I made this choice. I have a newer model that includes drivers for Vista, but drivers for Vista are readily available on the Canon website so it's not really an issue other than convenience. The LiDE 25 produces scans that are definitely better than the original photos. My first scans were some faded polaroids from the early 70's and they are amazing. I don't find this scanner noisy as some reviews have pointed out. The software that comes with it is actually quite nice, including OCR, and I found it fun to scan text documents, so that was important to me. For the average user, I would heartily recommend this scanner.
