Review on ๐ŸŒž ACOPOWER ProteusX Waterproof Solar Charge Controller - 20A 12V/24V with LCD Display by Anthony Epps

The controller works well but the display and cable connections are not perfect

So I have an AcoPower MPPT controller and I really like this device. And to be honest, ProteusX works great. The charging voltage and current are exactly the same as my MPPT controller. It is sealed to be waterproof. And I really like the fact that they didn't bother to issue the load. I don't use the controller's load output, when I connect a load to my system it's on the battery side. When connecting the battery and solar cables to the charger, you must turn the charger upside down to access the screw terminals on the bottom. AND THEY ARE NOT ASSIGNED ON THE BOTTOM, only on the top of the device. If you have a labeller I would recommend fixing this immediately. What I also don't like is the display. You can see a few things like battery voltage, charge voltage, and charge current, but then you get icons with LEDs that are supposed to give more information, and it's not the best way to access the information you need. Don't lose the instructions if you can't remember what the LEDs above each icon mean. Another feature of the display that first caught my eye was the orange light on the solar battery indicator. All other indicators are blue so I wasn't sure if the device was working properly until I looked at the instructions. It seems to charge very well, I just don't like the unlabeled ports on the back and the display could be better customized to access the information I need.

Pros
  • Best in its niche
Cons
  • Not the best
