Wobbly Crap is good for abrasives and finishing

Only two stars because I found a way to bring the mandrel to acceptable Chinese tolerances and the abrasives are about as expected. Two and a half stars for grinding wheels, nothing to worry about. Zero stars for the thorn when it arrived. The threaded screw dangles like a goose in the mandrel body; The shoulder fits normally on the disc, but the threads and bore for the shoulder are obscenely loose. I threw it into my German Metabo grinder, which I know works with a collet; the results were far from acceptable even for cheap Chinese material. The mandrel body did not match the shank and the disc was wobbly. I don't expect discs to be fully concentric around the edges, but wobble is unacceptable. The entire assembly of the mandrel appears to have been done on a well-worn hand lathe by someone with no machine learning. To align the shaft to the outer surfaces and get the correct finish, I was able to eliminate the wobble and most of the imbalance. I left the mandrel in the grinder and took it to my old USA made bench grinder which is very accurate and stable. As the grinder was moved in the opposite direction of the bench grinder (left side stone), I held it steady, the tapered portion of the mandrel just touching the raised points on the bench grinder, until I felt I'd gotten it right enough. I then repeated the process on the front of the mandrel until it was right. (This is very tricky and requires a very light touch of the grinding wheel to keep it from sticking.) I didn't want to do anything with internal threads or countersinks; I've tried harder than he deserves. I put the drive back in and it worked flawlessly considering the price and origin. I didn't measure how off-center it was, it just wasn't worth the effort and I'd only spend ten minutes of my time getting it to work or throwing it away. One star for the mandrel after rework.
