My previous taillight only required drilling a small (1/4 inch) hole in the transom, just enough for two wires to pass through, then screwing the light in. This light accurately states that it is "flush," but that's not a positive thing, as its installation requires drilling a large hole (with a drill - plus lots of silicone for caulking). Do real boatswains ever design anything like this? Who needs a hole that big just above the waterline? I decided to return this unit and instead simply replaced the old incandescent bulb with an LED bulb in my existing unit.
