I recently rebuilt the cutting deck and replaced the belt on my Craftsman LT3000 mower. However, what I didn't know was that after restoring the deck, the belt (which rotates the blades) would snag too much even with the blade lever in the "off" position. This caused the engine to stall and fail to start. I thought my battery was just dead so I tried to start the lawnmower (it still wouldn't start) and damaged the starter motor in the process. After figuring out the problem with the belt and replacing it with a slightly narrower one that didn't snag or pull, I installed this new starter and immediately started mowing again. The hardest part of the installation is removing the plastic cover/housing from the motor. There are a pair of standard screws on the back and a pair on the front (which use a star-shaped security bit). One of those rear screws is almost hidden by the gas line connection assembly, making it a bit difficult to access. But once you have them, it's not difficult to install at all. The printed instructions that came with the starter were pretty decent too (I wasn't expecting any instructions at all).
