Mattress covers are often plastic, smelly and noisy when changed. It's not one of those things. Bamboo is so soft that there is no odor when opened, it is smooth and silent when you move. It collects drops of water and appears to be totally waterproof. However, this only applies to the top. It's designed as a stretched sheet, so the top is thick and protective while the sides are just thin, stretchy sheet material that doesn't protect; It's just to keep it on the mattress, so don't expect it to be waterproof all around the mattress. The sides are deep to match our very thick twin mattress and foam padding which we added with ease. They advertise this cover as being dust mite resistant but that is not possible as it does not fully cover the entire mattress. You'll need a full zip pocket to claim it. Since we only needed to protect the top it works great for us, but keep in mind that it will definitely NOT protect against dust mites, bed bugs or anything like that. This is a waterproof cover for the top of the mattress only. So it works very well and we are very happy with it.
