Review on πŸš™ Auto-Trac 0232805 Peerless Light Truck/SUV Tire Traction Chain - 2 Piece Set by Daniel Postle

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent and easy to install chains for deep snow.

I just bought a second pair of these rims for my new Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. I had two pairs for my previous 2005 Jeep Rubicon with BFG Duratracs, size LT245/75R16. I use them to get to our self-contained cabin atop the Colorado Front Ridge at 8100 feet, and that adds up a few times each winter, most recently in mid-May when nearly two feet of snow fell in late spring. Yes, I can still get all 4 wheels spinning even with 4 of them on and the diff-lock on, but that usually happens when the snow is at least 15 inches deep and I'm trying to climb our fairly steep road . But I don't blame the chains for that - they're a reasonable compromise between aggressiveness, handling and ease of installation, and I'm not sure the larger chains work better when the undercarriage is actually a snowplough over the spring-loaded tensioners, but I do have used these chains once many times and had no breakage or damage. Longest use was about 10 miles - 5 ins and 5 outs, 2000' up/down logging road. But as with any brand of chain, make sure they fit snugly without twisting - get the job done right and the tensioners are fine. Size wise, well, on a 2005 Jeep, they were installed normally if I follow my advice below. They often seemed small to me. Not for my jeep, but you have to get it right - if you're not careful, the turnbuckles seem to be too short - center the diamonds on the tire. I will edit this when I have problems with the 2017 jeep. My only complaint is that the tote bags aren't strong enough, as are the zippers - both can easily break. Here are installation tips: - Dig out your tires before attempting to install them. - I use a small avalanche shovel that I keep. in the vehicle - dig out completely, including behind the tire. I know this should be obvious but do it fully and carefully and take your time so the tire is fully open on all sides where it makes contact with the snow just like they say. . Take care of them and crank them up before attempting to install them - take your time. Be careful with the spanners - they snap easily and can be pretty brutal on your fingers if they snap unexpectedly. Center the diamonds on the tire - take your time. You'll find that they move easier and faster if you move slowly, carefully, and methodically than if you try to hurry. I learned these three tips without doing them. If you follow them you can get the job done in 2 minutes per hoop. If not, you'll still be doing them after spending 15 minutes on the first hoop, feeling cold and frustrated, your hands cold, and the chains seem too damn small.
