This coarse-grained whetstone is ideal for preparing old and blunt knives that need to be sharpened on a fine-grained stone. The edge of one of my good knives looked like someone was trying to cut through barbed wire. After ten minutes on each side of the stone, the edge was smooth and flawless. After hitting the fine-grain stone knife, I cut onions and apples like hot butter! I would soak this stone for 12-24 hours before using it. Absorbs water like a sponge. When sharpening, the surface must be wet.
