Facts on: Cotton Blankets / CA King for Queen

Update 25 November 2021: I am very impressed with the weight and warmth of this duvet. This is a good blanket for a Texas winter. In some places this can be too much for midsummer. I was expecting a much thinner blanket with a looser weave. The fabric on it is quite dense for a cotton thermal blanket. It looks like a waffle pattern thermal shirt. It's warm but doesn't get too hot thanks to the cotton. The California King size for my rather large (18+ inch) queen mattress was a good choice. The duvet shrunk even though I washed it in cold water and tumble dried it on a low setting. hangs down on the sides enough to cover it up, but simply lacks the ability to tuck a blanket into the sides. Everything is OK. Anyway, my huge mattress is a beast to tuck everything under/in due to its weight. Original review: I have washed this duvet but have not used it yet. I expect it to be in good working order and warm when we finally assemble and cover our new bed with this duvet. Feedback: 1. Because they are made in a commercial factory from a large batch of 100% cotton, they are FULL of loose cotton fibers. This means that they lose a lot of fluff during the first wash in the washing machine and dryer. * ** The product is fine, falling out is normal and will become less pleasant. r time.*** The same thing happened to our thick Costco towels. It also means that you will not receive a flimsy item, but rather a higher quality item as it contains more cotton.2. a. 100% cotton heat shrink tubing, especially made from abroad b. 100% cotton heat shrink tubing specially made from abroad.c. 100% cotton shrinks, especially from abroad. So increase some dimensions to allow for shrinkage and still be the right size. to get a *California King* duvet (NOT the regular king duvet) that is long enough to cover the sides and tucks away even after washing.3. Due to their loose weave, all-cotton thermal blankets tend to stretch over time when used on a bed. Don't panic too much or too fast about shrinking! After washing, my 2 California King comforters are approximately 88.5 inches wide by 96 inches long. After laying them on the bed and starting to pull them when I make the bed, I fully expect the comforters to stretch 6-12 inches either way based on what all my other thermal blankets do made of pure cotton. 4. All-cotton thermal blankets are not made from microfiber, polyester, fleece or acrylic, but from cotton, a natural fabric that is denser to the touch. Therefore, the ceiling looks more convex and natural. The loose weave also makes the quilt bulkier. This is normal and not a defect or sign of poor quality. Use fabric softener, dryer balls, or a dryer sheet to soften *a little* if needed. My conclusion: I find the quilts more durable than my other loosely woven thermal blankets. I expect my 2 identical duvets will work just fine this winter. I'm glad all 4 sides are hemmed so the quilts can be used either way.
