Review on Top-rated GEAR AID Seam Grip SIL Silicone Sealant: Perfect for Silnylon Tents and Tarps by John Kachinosky

Boy Scouts can't teach them, but they can't beat them either. (This is a complete joke)

It doesn't matter how many times you tell them. Knives have no place next to tents. Don't shoot, but that was the previous lesson. Don't play with a knife near the tent, I kept telling them. Once when a Boy Scout was teaching another Boy Scout how to throw his knife in his spare time (No, nobody was miraculously injured) he bounced off the tent. Tree stump, turned around in the air like a UFO or some kind of "silver bullet" and flew towards the tent. Luckily he gained altitude and just flew over the rain fly. Therefore, fearing the wrath of the leader who took up their cause, they said nothing to anyone, but simply let them pass the tent. Well the irony is not without humor it seems. That night, while we were all sleeping, the sky opened up and it started raining. Then it rained harder and harder until morning. Coincidentally, the two scouts involved in the stabbing incident were sleeping right below the alleged "near miss." Woke up wet. Because they didn't attach the rainfly to trees or poles, the water pooled and ran straight into the surgical hole in the tent and raincover. Luckily for them, it was the only day that it rained and they had time to dry all their stuff. Outside. I was ready to write the tent off as a loss like many other tents before it. Then a quick google search found this product and an amazing video. I ordered it straight away and two days later I was ready to play thanks to my Prime account. I used duct tape to hold the cut together and spread it out about 1/8" thick on the other side, extending 1/4" from each side of the tear. I let it dry for 24 hours. Seemed to work fine. Now to the other side. I removed the packing tape and then repeated the process with the side of the tape and let it dry for 24 hours. I used some baby powder to apply silicone fixation to get rid of the stickiness before folding the rain cover up. After 3 weeks we used the tent at the campsite and it started raining again. But the fix held up well. This time the tent does not leak. Great product that I will use often. SILNET remains flexible and should hold up well to scout abuse.
