Many people have complained about poor quality aftermarket alternators for my '96 Ram 2500 with 5.9 Cummins. I decided to roll the dice since the "factory" generator was $300 plus dollars. . . and I just couldn't justify that cost for a 250,000 mile truck. Anyway, the delivery was fast, the packaging is ok. . . the plastic protection of the charging clamp on the generator broke. . . It doesn't affect performance, so I installed it anyway. Belt tensioner and belt changed at the same time. The whole project took about an hour. Truck started, alternator charged and I was holding a steady 14v. Time will tell how it holds up for the miles but for now I'm a happy backpacker. I am keeping my factory alternator and will rebuild it this winter when I have time and will keep it in my tool chest as a backup. . Just in case.
