Review on Cramer CRA 40407 EN Profiling by Pavel Craig

Is silicone "sealed " differently in Europe?

I used it for silicone caulking, not grout for which it is intended. Most profiles have a straight cross-section. There is a curved profile that looks the same as the 1/4 inch radius common in the US. And a curved profile that's huge, maybe a 1/2 inch radius. And narrow, narrow and narrow crooked. A narrower one will work with a seam where there is a gap in the material so that enough sealant is put into the seam for gluing. I need a larger than 1/4 inch radius profile that a seasoned pro can do with one finger, but I can't, it's unreliable. The profiles in this set are sized to fit but that would be a waste of material and I have to wonder why I've never seen such a chiseled kitchen or bathroom with a straight cross section. Never. Maybe they just do it differently in Europe. Where is this tool from? I did a tedious job 5 years ago, same job, and the sealant has lost its grip on the joints around the floor of my shower so more material is needed there. As for the tool itself, it appears to be of very good quality. It has neat little sliders for crossing grout lines in tiles (a job I'm familiar with with a regular pointer, so I don't need this grout and tile set, but beginners might need it). looks high quality but sturdy. I think a softer material might work better. Hmmm. Maybe in the kitchen for the back of the counter where it's the perfect 90 degrees. I think I'll keep looking for a tool with a radius of maybe 5/16" or 3/8" so I won't be doing this job in 5 years.

Pros
  • Remove old sealing compound: Old silicone seams can be removed with a CRAMER silicone remover and saw blade, use a scraper blade (including a spare blade) for residues.
Cons
  • Available in black only.
