I couldn't compare the new unit to the old one before installing it. The original unit has an electrical connector attached to the engine. When the unit was installed and I tried to connect the cords, there was no outlet. I started uninstalling it, but before I took it out, I noticed that the new device had a connector at the end of a long set of wires. Once I found the plug, all I had to do was plug it into an outlet and plug it back in. Another reviewer stated that there was noise at the door. I think it could be a loose wiring connector holding onto the inside of the door. To avoid this I tied plastic wrap around the fork to keep it steady. You can see the packaging in the photos and a photo of the original device with the plug attached is provided. My only other issue was trying to tape the window to keep it until I could make repairs. It didn't work and there was a lot of tape on the window. I cleaned the window as best I could but when I installed the unit it went up but not down. I eventually found that the glue had covered the black rubber strips that the window goes through. After I cleaned them with adhesive remover, the window worked perfectly. So if you need to hold the window up I suggest you use some sort of suction cup. I found 2 packs at the dollar store that worked very well. If I had done it first, this work would have been easy. Despite this mess, it was an easy task. My buddy replaced the controls on all four doors of his Tahoe for $400 each. No thanks, I'm ready for the next one. Another piece of advice. When I did this job, it was Houston in the morning and the temperature rose to 90 degrees. The black sticky materials holding the plastic film to the door may be dirty. Do not apply to clothing. When I pulled on the sheet, it stretched like chewing gum. I've found that cutting the black Gook with a razor blade while pulling on the protective coating keeps the material from spinning out of control. Before that I watched 2 videos on YouTube. One guy completely removed the protective coating. The other simply loosened the perimeter and tied the protective cover tight and worked around it. I think this is a less complicated way and saves you trouble. Video courtesy of JoeTheAutoGuy. I recommend it. However, it would be nice to see another Velvethamma video for comparison.
