This is much better than an external device. No need to worry about extra power supply and less mess. If you need additional USB and Firewire ports, this is the one for you. I just wish the FireWire speed was 800 instead of 400, but for $40 who can complain? If you think you're Luddites and can't install a PCI card, I can tell you it's very easy. Actually, it's not much different than plugging in your USB device. Just open your computer, remove the PCI cover (one screw) and put it in place! And if you have Mac OSX 10.28 or later, you don't need a driver. I got up and ran after five minutes.
