Bought this for a small dog, a very spoiled small dog who gets cold in the winter. It's super soft and my hubby was a wee bit envious when we got it. The front and back are two separate pieces, so you can feel that they aren't connected to one another. That's not optimal, but it isn't terrible. The back side is super soft. The front fake shearling side was super soft until I washed it. It is still soft, but not like it was before being washed. The dog doesn't notice that though, with his own soft coat. This is big enough that the dog can lay on it and there is still plenty to wrap over him to keep him toasty on cold winter days.
