This is a very nice little personal DVD player. I LOVE the pen! It's handy when I'm watching movies in bed - I can grab it to change position without pressing any buttons. And wear it without fear of dropping it. So far I've only used it with the DC charger attached, so I can't comment on the battery life yet. It worked as soon as I plugged it in, no charging required. I believe there was a red light in a small dark window on the side until the internal battery was charged. After about 4 hours it turned light orange. Turned off when unplugged. You can use it without remote control! You use the buttons on the loading door, to access menus and select from lists. Silver buttons on the left: Select up / Head back Select down / Head forward Select left / Skip right Select / Fast forward Stop Open Silver buttons on the right: Volume + Volume -SetupMenuEnter (to make your selection in the menu) PlayAs I show in my photos.I don't know why others in the reviews say that it is MANDATORY to use the remote control, maybe they haven't yet discovered all the functions of the ON buttons on the player. The volume goes up to 20. The speakers could be louder to use without headphones but they are ok. In a noisy environment, however, this would not be very practical. But having good headphones is just great - stereo sound with an immersive effect at volume 8, depending on the film. Use my own headphones I haven't tried the supplied headphones yet. They came with their own: remote control (see picture - fairly small and very thin, about the size of a credit card; uses a CR 2025 battery). and a matte finish to reduce glare. Overall it's a pretty good little player and I'm glad I bought it. Haven't tried the music CD yet but it says it will play it. Let's see how long it lasts, I've only used it the last 3 days. It comes with a 90-day manufacturer's warranty. I bought it in used/like new condition from Revain Warehouse Deals, so I'm not sure yet how the warranty will work. Option to add 3 year warranty for $5.98 but it changed to $8.25 when I added it to my cart as seen in my photos. I do not know
