I'm a wedding photographer working for Nikon. I bought this because I needed a replacement for my sturdy Nikkor 24-70mm 2.8 while it was being refurbished (shot HART for 6 years) and I could always use the extra wide (wife shares my gear). So here's what I found: Excellent focus, even in the dark. The Nikkor 24-70 gave me blurring issues from time to time, but NOT the Sigma. The Sigma is sharper than the Nikkor 24-70 at every aperture and has slightly more contrast and slightly more vivid colors. It often vignettes at the telephoto end, but personally I LOVE this look so I won't complain about it. Just know that it is so. The f/4 aperture might put some people off, but to be honest, when you're shooting with a wide-angle lens, do you really need a larger aperture most of the time? Probably no. If you're shooting in natural light, I see this creates problems, especially on older cameras where you can't increase the ISO to compensate for the aperture. On a more superficial level, this is a great lens. It's just damn well done and beautiful to look at. It's a nice weight and exudes quality glass - something I never thought I'd mention in a review. Weight might be an issue for some, but this is a pro lens - expect it to be heavy. Conclusion: This lens is a good buy. Excellent all round focal lengths, decent constant aperture, perfect focus and good looks. I prefer this lens to my Nikkor 24-70 and it's half the price. some nonsense.
