with a few simple changes. I buy a lot of fruit for my daughter and am picky when it comes to cleaning and storing fruit. Aside from that, I also hate wasting fruit. I always soak fruit in vingar water right after I buy it, this not only cleans the fruit but also preserves it if done right. For years I soaked, washed, then strained and refrigerated. The key to preservation is getting and retaining moisture from the fruit. This means I usually keep all my calendars/colanders in my fridge so moisture can drip from my fruit into the bowl I place the colander in. These berry crates are amazing because I can rinse my fruit in it, soak it, then take the fruit out to drain, rinse out the vinegar and then put the strainer back in the bowl to keep the dripping and keep the fruit dry in the fridge. Here are some questions. The box has small raised corners to levitate the screen so it can be loaded. It doesn't hold it up high enough to give it room to air, and if you're making fruit that can hold a lot of water, which should empty the space quickly as it fills, then your fruit is sitting in the water :-(. I just got it fixed it by i folded a paper towel and put it under the strainer to raise it higher, it will absorb liquid as a bonus.If you do this don't cover the entire bottom as you need air to bypass the fruit.Second the lid snaps on well and is tight This is great when you travel but not if your fruit is just in your fridge The lid traps moisture and quickly causes mold You need ventilation around the fruit to to keep it fresh. I slanted the lid or just peeled the foil off the top to allow air to escape. I hope this is helpful and I'll add a picture so you can see what I did.
