Review on Melling MWP500 High Performance Water Pump for GM 4.8 5.3 6.0: Top-notch Efficiency and Quality by Travis Garron

Leaking and noisy in less than three months - 1200 miles

All GM V-8 engines require a new water pump after approximately 120,000 miles. (Long-life orange coolant has less lubricity than older green coolant, causing seals to fail sooner and then leaks.) I've had mixed results with pump replacements over the years, so spent the extra money to use this more expensive melt pump . No problems for a few weeks but now it's noisy and slowly starting to leak around the shaft seal. Sigh. Still not bad enough to justify the time, cost of another pump, and $25 for two gallons of coolant to replace, but definitely not what I was expecting. I guess next time I'll just buy the cheapest pump I can find since "quality" isn't available.

Pros
  • Pleasant to use
Cons
  • old
