Worst doorknob ever.
The internal mechanism has two positions for the door handle to slide. One deeper in the door and another outside. I suppose they designed it to be more customizable. However, if the knob hole in your door doesn't align with either of these two locations and is closer to the center, the knob won't turn. They tried to be smart and turned out to be stupid. Just use a normal old school pen.
