Review on πŸ“Ά High-Performance Asus Dual Band Wireless-N 600 SOHO Router with Fast Ethernet, 8 Guest SSID & Parental Access Time Control (RT-N53) by Dylan Aaronson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

This router really disappointed me.

I've been involved with technology for a long time. I love new gadgets and I like testing new products. I was a Linksys guy for a while and my last router was a Netgear. Overall, I was happy with Netgear, but I wanted something that could open up my network a little more. I've read a lot about ASUS routers and despite the mixed reviews for the RT-N53, I still wanted to give it a try. PROS -- Relatively easy setup Fast performance Great design CONS -- The web interface is terrible (even after a recent firmware update). ) Making changes to the router settings requires a lengthy reboot every time the router hung multiple times when I had to cycle power. The WiFi range was worse than my Netgear router. I bought two of these devices, one for me and one for my parents. My parents have a big house and WiFi problems. I thought this router might improve your connection since I set it up with an old Linksys WRT54G I had. I was very disappointed with the case. I've seen worse coverage than the 5 year old router I had before. The web interface is very clunky. I've navigated through many different interfaces and it always seems easy to navigate. This interface is a nightmare. Improved a bit after updating the firmware, but still very strange. It takes quite a long time to reload, and in general I was not impressed. I strongly recommend looking around for a different router. This router looks great, but when it comes down to it, it just doesn't work properly. Too bad because I really wanted to like it. I left it on for a couple of weeks, continued with reboots and a weird UI, and hoped the wireless coverage issue would resolve itself. First, I returned the one I bought for my parents because the WiFi coverage was so bad it couldn't reach my parents' Roku from across the house. I wanted to keep this router longer and hope I can do that. In the end it didn't happen and I'm disappointed about that.
