The adhesive is made of rubber and sticks strongly to almost anything clean and dry. If the surface is wet, the adhesive will not harden. The backing is stronger than regular tape. It is durable and tear-resistant. And it doesn't stretch at all. I use it for all kinds of construction and renovation work. It's great for attacking Romex on fiberglass poles. Tear off a piece and use it as the world's most durable sticker to label things. It adheres very well to glass and mirrors. I've used it outside to temporarily fasten things and left it on for months and it's held up admirably to the sun and rain. Just don't use it on air ducts. Do not use cloth tape. It just won't take long. Use metal tape instead. It's widely available and much better suited to the job.
