So skeptical but so pleasantly surprised

replaced the compressor unit 3 times before I figured out how to cut the lower side pipe and fill up the coolant yourself. However, ten years later the heat exchanger itself was clogged and I knew it was time for a new unit. However, after a few moves, I just didn't have the space or need for a large closet. I replaced it with a wooden rack for several cases of everyday wine and bought this unit to store my specialty bottles. I really wanted something twice the size, but the thermoelectric blocks hold about 28 bottles. I knew I needed a thermoelectric version so I wouldn't have to deal with the cheap, troublesome compressors that are used in all wine coolers (they rarely last more than 3-5 years compared to 15+ in a fridge). Also, a 55-bottle compressor wine cabinet can easily cost $1,000, but this one costs $200. Even if I have to change it every 2 years, it's better than the supercharged versions. Good things first. Very quiet. Mine sits in the living room between the breakout and audio/video center and I rarely notice it's working. The all black design matches the audio/video equipment and the interior lighting is handy if you want to look for a bottle before opening the door. Now for the bad. The rack is incredibly cheap and flexes easily when filled with bottles. Some large bottles will fit and some will not. Finally, it works best in an air conditioned home as it can only cool about 20F below ambient temperature. At the end of the summer I have problems when the indoor temperature reaches almost 80 Β° C. I suspect this will affect the device's durability, so I'm glad I spent about $8 on an additional 5-year warranty. Even if the device dies after 2-3 years and the warranty is a scam, it's still a solid price for such a nifty little device.

Pros
  • AVAILABLE LUXURY - This 8 bottle wine cooler will help you get the most out of your favorite wines
Cons
  • Dubious purchase for seniors
