Review on Parker 98R Ultra Heavy Weight Long Handle Double Edge Safety Razor & 5 Blades: Superior Quality for a Flawless Shave by Sarah Schneider

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good razor, but not for beginners.

Unless you already have very light razors I would not recommend this for beginners or those transitioning from cartridge to safety razors. things about this razor. I've been using it for less than a week and it's already become my daily shaver compared to the Merkur 25C. I initially chose 25C because I sometimes had a few days between shaves and my facial hair was growing fast, so I needed something that could tame a longer mustache. The 25C open comb does the job well. However, I didn't like using it as a daily razor because with the open comb there was no gap between the blades, making it difficult to find the right angles for the third pass through the hair. The Parker 98R has a fairly large gap (at least compared to no gap at all, I'm not sure how big the gap is on the average razor) and I like its weight; it's almost twice the weight of my 25C. I don't have to press hard at all and I can actually feel and hear the hair being cut. The angle is a bit awkward going up but I'm still getting used to this razor so I'm sure it will work over time. I'm not a fan of the blades that come with this razor. However, my stash of Astra blades work great with this razor. Overall if you are experienced with safety razors this is a great buy and cheaper than similar razors from other brands. Updated 01/02/2021. from 5 stars to 3 stars. This is not a good daily shaving razor for my face as it cuts and slices like crazy. The more I use it, the less I like it. The slot and angle of the blade, combined with the weight, make it difficult to smooth out certain contours on my neck, and I often cry because of it. Instead I will try my luck with the Merkur 34c.
