The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.Reocmmended, but With Reservations

I wasn't actually sure how to rate this. It's honestly probably a 3.5 star product.So.the good: actually pretty stable, and perfect if you have a small kitchen or desire to fill a small nook. I've used mine as a sort of coffee station. I think you could probably place a lighter weight or smaller microwave on the top shelf with no issue. The shelf arrived quickly and the instructions were pretty great especially compared to Ikea. That leads me to the bad.The bad: while the top is pretty thick, heavy and sturdy, the same cannot be said for the shelf and cabinet base. You're probably looking at a few millimeters thick particle board-ish material on the base of the shelf and cabinet. This being said, I'm pretty certain you could stow items like a generic coffee maker, popcorn maker, a lighter weight blender, plastic bowls, etc. without any issue. I would NOT recommend using the this to store items like cast iron pans. Though I haven't tried it myself, I'm guessing the end result wouldn't be pretty. And finally, the ugly ugly ugly. This shelf was pretty easy to assemble, and clearly depicted all the pieces, but when assembling, DO NOT over tighten! I'm not frail, but I'd never be described as imposing or strong, especially as a petite female. That being said, I split the wood or wood-ish pieces in about five spots when assembling this item, and that was just by setting the screws until they felt tight. The slat material is pretty soft, so I'd HIGHLY recommend you stop when you feel the screw at a minimum tension, then go from there.Overall, why would I give it four stars? It looks good, and despite the wood splits, seems pretty darn sturdy. Don't over estimate what this shelf can store, don't over tighten when assembling, and it's a decent product, especially for the price.

Pros
  • The hardwood top is easy to clean and resists stains and scratches
Cons
  • The cart may not be functional for some cooking styles
