Review on Fellowes Powershred 70S: High-Security Strip-Cut Shredder - Paper & Credit Card Shredder with SafetyLock by Andre Arias

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Solid offer and solid shredder!

Revain sold this for a lot less than stationery stores or competing websites. While still more expensive than the average household shredder, it's definitely a worthwhile purchase. I've used it quite a bit since it was delivered a few weeks ago. It's heavy, durable, and appears to be well built (both chopper and container). Fellowes is really quiet, just a faint hum as the paper goes through. For lack of a better way to put it, I'll just say it sounds more masculine and sporty. LOLs After the first use I had a faint sense of confidence that this shredder would most likely outlive its owner. We shred all the non-glossy paper in our household to reuse as compost bins and worm food, so we watched our former little old home shredder die a slow, painful death from overwork. I don't think the same fate will befall these Fellowes. I bought the model cut in strips. Because we use shredded compost material, small pieces of paper are avoided being blown out of the compost bins on a windy day. The lower security of strip cutting is not a problem for me, but maybe for some. In addition, the shredded material fills the container faster than with the cut-to-length model due to the strip cut. Again, this isn't a problem for me, but could be a problem in other situations. I generally expect a strip cut shredder to last longer than a cut to length shredder. As the cross-cut shredder begins to fade, the cross-cut blades lose their sharpness and shredded material begins to wrap around the shredder mechanism, causing paper jams. Paper jams will cause the motor to overheat, resulting in motor failure. My only strip shredder lasted ten years, until my impatient wife tried to feed a stack of paper that was too thick. Once it was there, I couldn't take it away, and that was goodbye, dear. I'm just wondering if a paper shredder will ever be made with some sort of lever or cam to separate the cutter heads to clear paper jams.

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • Expensive
