Review on High-Speed Transcend TS-RDF5K USB 3.1 Card Reader for SDHC/SDXC/microSDHC/SDXC Cards - Black by Steve Wynn

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Doesn't offer USB3.0 worthy speed

These reader/writers are working as expected, except for the speed ratings. When writing, I achieve between 4 and 6 MB/s and when reading 6-8 MB/s, which corresponds to the USB 2.0 specifications. I realize that there are some considerations to be made when testing read/write speeds on flash devices. I also understand the scientific method and control settings. Here are the control settings: PC = HP Elitebook 8430 i5 with USB3.0SD = Sandisk Ultra 16GB MicroSD c10 HC1Test = Burn disc ISO image with imaging software to same SD card with single variable USB r/w usedImage = Odroid XU4 Ubuntu 18.04 imagePerformance ( this item) = 4-6 MB/s write, 5-8 MB/s read Built to USB3.0 specs, but it definitely doesn't offer the speed expected from a USB3.0 device. Just to be clear - this is not limited to a single failed device, I have observed this performance on 10 different reader/writers of the same brand that I purchased for bulk SD card imaging for a company that I work. They all delivered about the same performance across the board compared to another brand which I won't name. Notes: It was about $2 more per unit, same color but brand starts with i instead of t. That's all I'll give as I don't want to make any official recommendations. If you can figure it out with these clues, then you got it.
