This is great quality and a great price, you can't go wrong! Ideal for observing your animals day or night without disturbing their day-night cycle. Especially good for reptiles and amphibians. I suggest buying multiple bulbs, at least 2 but optimally 3 so you can have a daylight bulb in one, a ceramic ONLY HEAT bulb with no visible light (at Revain for about $12) to keep it constant for a better temperature range , and a night bright. for nocturnal viewing. Having used many types and brands of lightbulbs for over 18 years, I suggest using this or any other quality dimmable lightbulb instead of others, especially those sold at stores like Wal-Mart or Home Depot. The lower price isn't worth it as they don't usually work with incandescent bulbs. over 75 watts especially for incandescent bulbs and when they do they work for a while but the plastic sockets start to turn brown making them brittle and prone to cracking causing them to stop. Also, they usually just turn on or off without any settings. Although it is cheaper I have found that you will replace it much sooner than a brand like Fluker and you will have to buy another one so better buy the quality and also the dimmable type from Fluker combined with one or more bulbs you can Keeping your pets at the optimal temperature of the living environment day and night, for example: with 3 lamps and 3 different lamp types: ceramic heater only, warming daylight and a red or black heating/vision lamp, you can control the temperature of the ceramic bulb during the day with the gray Reduce lamp, then increase at night when you turn off daylight and turn on red or black bulb for night vision, or all the way when there is no constant light at night. BEWARE OF CHEAP LAMPS WITH PLASTIC BASES, CHECK THE LAMP POWER AND THE RATED SOCKET AS USING HEAT LAMPS CAN MELT THE BASE AND WILL CAUSE DAMAGE, INJURY OR DEATH NOT ONLY TO YOUR PETS! I love the Flukers because not only do they come with a high quality ceramic socket and reflector, but they are also dimmable to easily adjust to your pets' ambient temperature. Finally, this is a great lamp, especially for the price. I'll update this as I have new information, but having had several of each size for years before getting another pair, I've had no problems.
