Black fluorite is doing very well in the aquarium. However, I have used it for a freshwater aquarium and have not been able to stabilize the carbonate hardness or KH. I keep freshwater shrimp. I use reverse osmosis water and salted shrimp to make 200 TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) remineralized water. I worked very hard but after three months and advice from SKF Aquatics I gave up and replaced it with an inert substrate. I had bloody mary neocardina shrimp. I bought two bags and even kept one bag in reverse osmosis water for three weeks and it kept raising carbs. If there was a way to extract all of the chemicals from fluorite that would be great. I would recommend a much clearer warning about using this product on freshwater shrimp and exactly what minerals it can leach.
