I have used several substrates designed for planted aquariums and Flourite is definitely my least favorite. Even after rinsing, foam remained on the aquarium glass and a cloudy cloud at the bottom of the aquarium. I ended up draining all the water and rinsing the Flourite again and a few days later there is still residue. Almost all of the bad reviews associated with this product are related to how dirty it gets your water. There is a simple solution. Within 24 hours of filling my new tank with unwashed Flourite Black, the tank was crystal clear. Open bag and pour directly into an empty aquarium. If it helps anyone, I worked with one pocket at a time and did the following: 1) Drill 2 dozen 3/16" holes in an area of the lid, mostly near the edge. (Any size smaller than most fluorites.
