For amateurs and common people, you know, this is a very good lens that is sharp 99% of the time. It's small and covers a wide range of focal lengths. Pros: Purchase only for travel or everyday photography. For professional work, get a Tamron 2.8 or go all the way and get a Nikkor 2.8. (24-70mm) Compared to VR version: The new VR is slightly better but still not the same as 2.8, so there is almost no difference unless you make videos where VR is useful. This lens will get the job done, but not as well as the Pro Glass. NOTES: Get a clear UV filter to avoid dust inside. Kind fragile, don't drop it.
