One of the reasons I bought this board was that I thought I would like the rails. I do not know. The blank pads in one of the corners caught my attention and I learned they were for the EEPROM, which allows the device to identify itself to the RPi and is required for the device to conform to HAT specifications. The traces go to pins on the RPi that are dedicated to this purpose (i.e. Gpios are not wasted). However, for me I would look for a replacement due to the CSI cable slot being misaligned and putting pressure on the cable. My project requires a camera and my solution is to ignore the slot and let the CSI cable wrap around the end of the card.
