I was so excited when I found this hole punch. I make 5 and 10 mil thick laminated journal covers and needed a hole punch so I could see where to cut the wired journal covers. This product has received so many good reviews that it's better for "more complex" crafts and not necessarily good for punching holes in a few sheets of plain paper, for example. I thought it would work great, all the little extras that went with it, the fact that it's honestly very sturdy and seems well made, I thought I was lucky. Not correct. As shown in the images above, I used two different size dies to cut through the 5 mil laminate. With the kind of pressure you would normally use (no pull pressure), it cuts about 3/4 of the circumference of the circle. I put it over the hole and tried again with a little twist, same thing. I could literally flip it over like some sort of lid. I've tried different hole sizes, same thing. I've tried it on laminated plastic as well as one spot with laminate and 110lb cardstock. The same thing. It just didn't quite cut through, no matter if I REALLY pressed, if I twisted and pressed and twisted etc. I'm not sure why that is, it feels like a strong, heavy tune. - but in terms of performance, it just doesn't work. It's a shame because otherwise it's a really great product, but it's like having a great car without an engine.
