It will take time to figure everything out. First you need to learn how to remove the battery cover on the bottom. I found the best way to do this was to press the two small buttons on the black rubber grip by sticking my fingernail under the edge of the battery cover and pulling. It took a while to figure this out, but it worked out in the end. Then I tried to deal with the batteries. It turns out that the batteries look up on the one hand, and down on the other. However, this only works in one configuration, so you might have to alternate trying sides up and down. Ultimately, the previous reviewers were right. The thing is very loud and annoying. Not a good buy at all.
