I wear a Knee Ankle Foot Orthosis (KAFO) on each leg. These are more commonly known as "leg braces." The KAFOs include a molded footplate that wraps partially around the foot, so I need especially wide shoes. I had a pair of 2X-wide shoes that were much too narrow to work with the KAFOs, so I decided to try a shoe stretcher. I'm pleased to say this stretcher did the job!My shoes are men's size 8.5 2X-wide, so I purchased the gray stretchers designed for men's U.S. size 6.5 - 9. I conducted several stretching sessions over a 2-week period. Before each stretching session I applied a generous amount of FootMatters Professional Boot & Shoe Stretch Spray (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NLM8EL6), then inserted and cranked the stretchers to widen the shoes. For each session, I left the stretchers in the shoes for at least 24 hours, then did a test fit on my feet. On one foot, I have a painful callous, so I used two of the supplied bunion plugs when stretching that shoe. On the other foot, the instep was too tight, so I used one of the heightening pads to provide some relief. The proper usage of the heightening pads is not well-explained in the instructions, but after a few minutes of trial and error, I figured it out.Bottom line: It took a half-dozen stretching sessions, but I'm now comfortable in these shoes. This product -- along with the stretch spray -- worked exactly as described and saved me the expense of purchasing special extra-wide shoes.
