Review on πŸ”’ Set of 5 McGard 24538 Chrome Cone Seat Wheel Locks - 1/2"-20 Thread Size by Jon Smith

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Not complete proof, but better than nothing.

I have a 2005 Jeep Liberty CRD Unlimited and wanted to mount the spare tire to the trunk (don't forget to use the red chevron to secure the mounting bolts to the car or someone could run off with all the rails/ support blocks). I was happy to see that these lock nuts appear to be very well made. I've had no problems with them rusting or even losing their nickel luster. I have an issue with them and that is the length. Since my Jeep has aluminum tires (I've heard steel is fine), the factory nuts stick out about a half inch or so, maybe enough room to grab them with pliers. I doubt anyone has large enough locking pliers handy, and it would definitely take time and a lot of noise to get them off, but it's theoretically possible. In addition, the factory version of this product has the same problem, McGard designed it for its size. Besides, these things work! This prevents a thief from going to the car and taking the tire immediately. In summary, if a thief happens to have the right tools, time and determination, and bravery (or stupidity) on hand, he might be able to get past those locknuts, but it definitely annoys him, hell at least. .If this review helped, please tell!
