The fabric is stretchy and the laces help adjust fit as needed. Normally wear a size 16 @ 5'1. Ordered a 3x and was nervous about it fitting, but followed the size chart and so glad I did. It fits fine. A little long on the bottom but with kitten heels it works for me. The velvet may get a little hot in milder climates, but in a/c should help.
