Review on Delphi CZ20007 Distributor by Brandon Kraemer

When I replaced 2 screws on the cover at the base one of the screw holes just broke. Looks like one of two possible defects. First, it's not new, and the distributor base was old, and the heat from the engine made the plastic brittle. I don't think that was the case, but I admit it's possible. A more plausible reason is a simple design flaw. The screws are made with coarse wood/tin threads and the plastic screw hole is not soft or pliable. When the screw penetrates the hardened, brittle plastic, the plastic doesn't move, forcing the hole to widen until it bursts. I can't afford a higher quality distributor at the moment. I sent this back from Revain with no problems and got a replacement. I hope the new one is somehow better and the old one was an accident. Just make sure to put some lube on the screw and try not to over tighten it. I never really tightened the first one, in fact it broke when there was about 16 inches left to tighten the lid. ******************** UPDATE** ********************** I just unscrewed these screws new. Looked into the holes and sawed plastic shavings. It looks like when you take the screws out the shavings are left behind because the screws are self tapping. I carefully cleaned the shavings and put a tiny dab of dielectric grease on the screw and reseat the screws. The screws are then well tightened, without cracks or tears. So I would advise you to do the same. I'm still leaving this as 1 star because a simple metal insert into the hole with a machine screw holds everything in place. Delphi should have known that this is a bad idea and not very expensive to fix. ********* LAST UPDATE ********** The replacement unit also broke but never bothered to come back here to update it. Found on the forum S-10 half price with metal base. they sell on ebay for between $60 and $80. I've had a metal one for over a year and it works perfectly.
