Review on πŸ’§ 1-Inch Automatic Water Shut-Off Valve by leakSMART - Exclusive Product by Tom Schuster

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great product and integration with Samsung SmartThings

Insurance made me do it. I hired a plumber to install this in my water softener. Paid $400 to install this and another mechanical shut off valve as a safety mechanism. It took a plumber about 4-5 hours to install this and the mechanical shut off valve. I used a Samsung SmartThings hub instead of my own Leak Smart hub. I have water sensors throughout the house. Pairing with the Samsung SmartThings Hub takes just 30 seconds from start to finish. It works great so far. I've only had it for a few days and I've tested it. I have a whole house Wi-Fi network with a single router that broadcasts very far and wide, reaching my driveway and yard and covering the entire 4,000 square feet of indoor space. Although installed indoors, this shut-off valve is at the other end of the WiFi range, but still works well. I set up an automation in the SmartThings app to close this valve (and turn on the red light) when the leak sensor assembly gets wet. I tested one of the sensors in the group and in less than 5 seconds text and push notifications were received, the water was shut off and the light came on and turned red (as a visual warning). I also plan to add a siren as an audible warning. I will update this review as important developments related to the operation of this valve occur over time.

Pros
  • SMART HOME COMPATIBILITY - works over Wi-Fi with Nest, Wink, IRIS and SmartThings
Cons
  • Questionable senior purchase
