The brushes were packed in a very sturdy brown box tied with brown thread. I'm sure it can be recycled but I plan to reuse it. It was like receiving a gift. I wasn't sure about switching from my regular, polluting sponges and scrubbers, but after using them with Meliora hardware for about a week, I gave up. These brushes are all natural, so I plan on composting them once they wear out. They are also available in two different textures or hardnesses: the light-bristled brush is softer and great for general dishwashing; and 2 darker brushes are harder, ideal for brushing. I used a stiffer brush to clean up a very crusted mess on a large baking sheet and didn't miss my plastic scraper. A few bristles came out with that first heavy use, but that doesn't seem to be a permanent problem. I can't say how long they will last but for now I can definitely buy them again.
