I bought this as an alternative to my CC Crane "CC Pocket" which had a mechanical volume switch failure (apparently a known issue). I found the Sangean less desirable than the CC Crane from the start (although it looks like a virtual clone from the outside): the battery level cannot be viewed without turning on the device. It will turn off automatically after 60 minutes if you don't press and hold the ON button for 10 seconds. You cannot view the clock while it is in use. But it worked fine (no volume control issues) until last week when it started draining the batteries completely when turned off. The batteries are charged when the device is switched off, but the batteries are completely empty the next time the device is switched on (even after a few hours). The battery compartment gets hot even when the radio is off and idle. This can be both dangerous and annoying. Until I get my new CC Crane radio I have to remove the batteries from this Sangean radio every time I want to turn it off.
