I don't often use a rolling pin, but despite that I've had a few different kinds over the years. My Holy Grail rolling pin is that plain wooden stick style popularized by Martha Stewart on her mid-1990s syndicated lifestyle show, "Martha Stewart Living". So this was my opportunity to finally score some version of that. And while it's ultra-cool and certainly my favorite of all the rolling pins I've owned, I'm a bit disappointed that it looks less rustic and handmade than the rolling pin of my dreams. This has a very regular symmetric shape and is obviously machine manufactured. Plus, it's highly polished, which just seems weird to me. I'm not sure what I was expecting, since I got this on Ebay (and not at some antique shop), but I suppose if I use it enough it will acquire the patina of age soon enough.
