Bought this unit to replace a failed DMR-ES15. The ES15 has an old analogue TV tuner so I don't think it's worth fixing. I was dying to get the DMR-EZ28K because I thought it would be the next step up from all the great features Panasonic has packed into the ES15. While the DMR-EZ28K offers great video, the editing features have taken a giant step backwards (for example, the phrase list that saved so much time on the ES15 is missing on the EZ28, meaning you'll have to edit from scratch every time you do it record, tape). This was a great feature on the DS15 as you could easily keep track of disc sequential numbering, favorite show titles (just by adding the episode number), etc. For example, a lot of clipboard. Unlike ES15, you can't even return an edit cursor (the cursor is replaced with spaces). The menu title text preview window is also gone, so you can't tell where your text string will wrap (unless you count the characters manually, it usually wraps in the middle of a word (ugly)). I can't play any of my previously recorded DVD+RWs on the EZ28 (tried on my PCs, they play well) so I'll have to buy an additional DVD player if I want to keep using them in my life. Room. Seems I'll have to stick with DVD+R and DVD-RAM for the EZ28. One caveat to using DVD-RAM discs on the EZ28: you must reformat any DVD-RAM disc on the EZ28 before using it (even if it was previously formatted on a Panasonic recorder such as the ES15). Otherwise, be prepared for a serious aggravation. I learned this the hard way. There are still issues (e.g. a slow tuner), but for now the above will do (I've only had the device a few days). I'm hoping Panasonic releases a firmware update (you'll need to burn a CD from the download on the Panasonic website) to fix this whole mess. I know Panasonic has made great products in the past, I find it hard to believe that they would dump their customers with garbage. Remember the EZ28 has great video. In fact, the 4-hour recording mode is so good that it's almost indistinguishable from the 2-hour mode (doubling the storage space). If you can live with the limitations listed above (assuming the device lasts long), you'll love this DVD burner. In short: great hardware with unfinished software (Panasonic, do the right thing and give us an update to make the EZ28 UI as good as the old ES15). in use).Support site:[.]
